It stands at 100 feet tall and consists of a "...three-planed narrow shaft ending in a pointed tip, penetrates a triple star-like cluster near its apex

Close up photograph of the hands of those U.S. Marines who raised the American flag on Mt. Suribachi, on the island of Iwo Jima, during World War II.  The Iwo Jima Memorial statute depicts the scene of the flag raised by 5 Marines and a Navy hospital corpsman that signaled the successful takeover of the island and was one of the final battles during the war, which ended in 1945.
